Tesco Bank celebrates outstanding local charity partnerships
29 March 2018
At Tesco our values underpin everything that we do. At no point is this more true than with our local communities and how we live our third value: “Every little help makes a big difference”.
For the past year colleagues at Tesco Bank have been working hard to raise an incredible £135,000 for our local charity partners in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle. Additionally, they’ve committed over 6000 hours volunteering for good causes.
Mirroring our national ‘Bags of Help’ initiative, Tesco Bank colleagues choose a local charity for each of our three offices, and then spend time throughout the year fundraising and volunteering to support the charities’ transformational work.
For colleagues this work provides a great opportunity to give back to their local community, and it helps contribute to the brilliant working culture that we have here at Tesco Bank.
This year has been particularly special: mountains have been scaled, sleeping bags have been a necessary requirement to brave the winter cold, and many hours have been devoted locally at the charities with helping hands always in need. And this has all been achieved over and above colleagues’ day jobs.
As the chief executive of our Newcastle charity remarked, “greatly assisted by Tesco Bank this year, we have secured some new, bigger and better premises to enable us to engage with even more disabled and disadvantaged youngsters across the North East - changing their lives forever and helping them to reach their full potential - truly an amazing legacy for the Tesco Bank colleagues.”
But this story is no surprise. Colleagues at Tesco Bank enthusiastically embrace their local charities because they recognise the immediate good that it creates. No contribution is too small to make a big difference. Every help counts.
So while we say a sad goodbye to the Rock Trust, Birth Baby and Beyond, and Smile for Life, we are delighted to welcome Life Care, Beatson Cancer Charity and the People’s Kitchen for our 2018-20 partnership.
Colleagues’ enthusiasm will only grow in the coming months as we continue to deliver more little helps for the local communities in which we serve
