Tesco Bank opens Newcastle office

500 jobs already created with over 500 more in the coming years
Tesco Bank’s Newcastle office will be officially opened today by Philip Clarke, who will take over as chief executive of Tesco plc in March 2011.
Over 1,000 new jobs are being created at the new office at the Quorum Business Park and the Bank is already well advanced in its recruitment plans with the first 500 staff now in place.
The recruitment drive supports Tesco Bank’s strategic aim to offer customers good value, simple and convenient products.
The 500 new recruits will begin handling sales and service calls for Tesco’s car and home insurance customers later this month. They bring a wide range of experience from across the insurance and customer service sectors and hail from Seaham in the south to Cramlington in the north, demonstrating that the jobs boost has benefitted the whole region.
On opening the office, Philip Clarke commented,
“Today is an exciting step in our journey to becoming a full service bank. At Tesco first class customer service is central to how we work and as we expand the business, it is crucial that the people we recruit can be true ambassadors for Tesco Bank. That’s why we have come to Newcastle. The region offers excellent financial customer services talent. We have already got a great team in place which we will continue to build over the next few years.”

Additional customer service roles will be created over the next two years as well as up to 250 new roles for claims-managers, team leaders and negotiators. The jobs are being created as part of Tesco Bank’s general insurance partnership with Fortis UK (soon to become Ageas), announced last year. Tesco Bank’s decision to locate the centre in Newcastle was supported by a grant of nearly £2m from the regional development agency for North East England, One North East.
