Scotland stars Robert Snograss and Suzanne Grant celebrate thrilling climax to second year of Tesco Bank Football Challenge on the pitch at Hampden Park

Today (Monday 21st May),Scotland stars Robert Snodgrass and Suzanne Grant were at Hampden Park as 300 children from across Scotland enjoyed a day to remember at the Tesco Bank Football Challenge.

From as far north as Milton of Leys (Highlands) and Inverness (Highlands), south to Philiphaugh (Scottish Borders) and Stranraer (Dumfries and Galloway), and west to the Isle of Rothesay (Argyll and Bute) children from 30 different schools took part in a truly magical day.

As well as enjoying a coaching session on the hallowed Hampden Park turf, the children took part in the Hampden Experience tour, and also enjoyed a mini funfair, within the confines of the stadium bowl!

The Tesco Bank Football Challenge is a four-year community programme run in partnership with the Scottish FA. The project introduces football to Primary 2 and Primary 3 children (six to eight years old) across Scotland to help get them engaged in a healthy and active lifestyle.

Overall, nearly 40,000 children across more than 800 schools across Scotland will have been involved in the Tesco Bank Football Challenge by June 2012.

Leeds United and Scotland star Robert Snodgrass said,

"I was very excited to be invited to the Tesco Bank Football Challenge Festival Finale for 2012 at Hampden. I think it is superb way to encourage young children to play football as well as sport in general. I have been lucky enough to play at Hampden so I know how enjoyable it must be for these children."

Jim Fleeting, Scottish FA head of football development said,

"The Tesco Bank Football Challenge has been a great success. We established this programme having identified a real need to get children participating in football and sport in general from an early age as part of a healthy and active lifestyle. This second finale at Hampden Park illustrates the benefits of the programmes and how much children across the country have enjoyed taking part.  It was fantastic to see the boys and girls enjoy a brilliant day."

Benny Higgins, chief executive of Tesco Bank comments,
