Place2Be and Tesco Bank celebrate a successful year of fundraising
23 April 2015
On Wednesday (22 April 2015) Place2Be accepted a cheque for more than £66,000 from employees at Tesco Bank in Edinburgh.
Tesco Bank employees chose Place2Be as their official charity partner for 2014-15 and raised £66,298 – well in excess of their original target of £40,000.
Place2Be helps children to cope with problems such as bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, familybreakdown, neglect and trauma, helping to improve the emotional wellbeing of children and their families.
Tesco Bank’s fundraising helped to provide Place2Be’s whole school mental health support in sixteen schools in Edinburgh and East Lothian. Over 1,800 local children directly benefited from this vital early intervention service over the year as a result of Tesco Bank's efforts.
Tesco Bank employees also volunteered on a range of projects to support the various schools where Place2Be operates, as part of the bank’s commitment to providing volunteering opportunities for employees to help support local communities. This included painting games on the playground at St Catherine’s RC Primary School in Edinburgh, creating an allotment garden at Prestonpans Infant School in East Lothian and working on a ‘Homework Club’ project.
Place2Be Chief Executive Catherine Roche commented on the partnership,
"Intervening early to support children’s mental health is vital and we are extremely thankful to Tesco Bank for supporting Place2Be’s life-changing work.
"Tesco Bank's enthusiastic and supportive employees are enabling us to work with school communities so that many thousands of children in schools across Edinburgh and East Lothian can develop resilience to cope with life’s challenges and make the most of their school years."
Place2Be fundraising manager for Scotland Carol Anne McMahon said:
"Every employee who has abseiled from a bridge, cycled, ran, attended an event, bought raffle tickets, dressed up, dressed down, painted classrooms, built fences and improved playgrounds have made the lives of local children brighter and provided a platform for each child to simply be a child. The hard work and excellent results have been very much appreciated by all at Place2Be."
Tesco Bank community engagement manager Suzanne Laporte adds,
"Our colleagues are passionate about making a difference and, each year, they choose a local children's charity to support. They really understand the value of the work that Place2Be do to support families at difficult times and we’re very proud of all their fundraising efforts. Being able to work with the children on projects like the Homework Club and encouraging children to reach their potential was a great experience for our colleagues."
