The Yard announces partnership with Tesco Bank
26 May 2015
Today (Tuesday 26 May) The Yard announces that it has been selected by Tesco Bank’s colleagues in Edinburgh to be their official charity partner for 2015-16.
To formally launch the partnership, Tesco Bank colleagues visited the charity’s adventure centre in Canonmills, Edinburgh to experience a fun filled session with pupils from The Royal Blind School and Braidburn School in Edinburgh.
The Yard is a purpose built indoor and outdoor adventure playground for children and young people with disabilities. It gives children space to explore, join in and make friends – things that they can be excluded from in other environments. The large outdoor playground gives children freedom to build dens, have barbeques, climb trees and charge around on one of their specially adapted bikes and trikes. Indoors there is room to paint, bake, draw and be with others or be alone in the calming space of the sensory room.
Colleagues at Tesco Bank plan to volunteer their time and also raise £40,000 over the year, which will provide sessions for more than 900 pupils at special schools from across Scotland to attend the centre.
Therese Procter, Chief People Officer at Tesco Bank, said,
"Our people at Tesco Bank are passionate about making a different in the communities where we live and work.
"Each year they choose a local children’s charity to support. This year we voted to support The Yard – they really understood the value of the work that the charity does to support families. We loved visiting The Yard today and joining in with the children’s adventures.
"It’s a very inspiring experience seeing every child having so much fun, supported by an amazing team. We’re looking forward to a great year of fundraising and volunteering."
The Yard Chief Executive Celine Sinclair said,
"We are delighted to have been chosen as Charity of the Year by Tesco Bank Edinburgh.
"Their support will make an enormous difference to the children and young people who use our service and help to ensure that our curriculum linked school sessions remain of the highest quality and give children and young people with complex the needs the chance to meet children from other special schools, make friends and above all have fun."
